Zebra Letters For A Tween Bedroom Makeover

In this post I will show how I revamped my daughter's name letters from baby nursery pink to sassy black and purple zebra stripes.

It started with a couple cans of Kryolan spray paint in Deep Plum and Black (gloss). I set up a little spray booth in some large cardboard boxes and worked outside. I wiped the wooden letters with vinegar to remove dirt and oils. 

I cut a zebra pattern out of cardstock with my Silhouette Cameo. I bought the pattern in the Silhouette Store but had to tweak it so that it would cut a stencil and I didn't lose any inside pieces - if you have questions on that I'd be happy to elaborate.

I painted the letters plum and let them dry for a couple of hours. Then I sprayed the black over the stencil. I made sure to spray enough to cover but not so much that the paint pooled and bled (which happened on my first attempt).

And then hung them on the wall!  I used 2 tricks I got from Pintetest for hanging pictures. First I put some painters tape on the wall making sure it was level. Then I put a little toothpaste where the hole was on the back of the letters and placed it on the wall, in line with the painters tape, and the toothpaste left a mark on the wall where the nail needed to go. Pretty cool.
